Vasilisa the Beautiful ( Ages 6+ )
By : Anthea Bell & Anna Morgunova
Publisher : Minedition ( Dec.,2015)

The well known Russian folk tale with it`s touch of magic,is retold with the help of absolutely gorgeous artwork; Beautiful Vasilisa was presented with a magic doll by her dying mother. Later, her wicked stepmother sends her off to retrieve light from the witch, Baba yaga. Vasilisa is given some tasks to complete in return for light. Her doll comes to the rescue, helping her with those tasks. The powerful light she received destroys the wicked step family.
Vasilisa`s linen, woven so finely and so soft, delights the king, He falls in love with the beautiful weaver.
This rich folk tale retold without any twists with a touch of Russian proverbs is well supported by it`s brilliant artwork-extremely elaborate and colourful-which gives it a touch of Russian traditional folk art. Together, these provide an ample space for imagination.
As a kid I enjoyed reading Russian folk tales very much but I was unable to find anything good enough for my kids I presume such is the shortage of these precious tales in the market. And this beautiful book not only helps to fill up the gap but hopefully will vociferate many more to join in.

Whispers of the Wolf ( Ages 4 to 8)
By : Pauline Tso

Publisher : Wisdom Tales ( Oct .,2015)

A heart warming tale about an unlikely friendship and letting go. The story of a tribal boy called Two Birds and his wolf friend.Meeting at a tender age they form a beautiful relationship. Through his wolf friend the very backward boy finds his place among his people, he was able to form many new friendships, receives respect and do things he was unable to do before.
Then the time comes for the tamed wolf to answer the call of his pack. But is Two Birds ready to let go of his beloved friend?
Two Birds; a Pueblo Indian and his friend live in an era about five hundred years ago in the south west desert,. with his tribe.Notes about this setting, historical and cultural are available in the book. The book also reminded me a bit of the Franco-Belgian comic book series Yakari. Which is based on Sioux tribe around the 16th century.
Detailed illustrations in pastel base captures the magical setting and the emotional theme of the story well.It also delivers the message of being responsible and letting go.
